Watercolours

I like to use watercolour in a fairly loose and expressive way, often combining it with pencil or sometimes liquid charcoal or ink. When I'm commissioned to do a portrait my aim is to try and capture some of the essence of the character - it could be the energy, or the doleful glance of a hungry pup or maybe just the look of contentment of a much loved soul. I think the most important thing is to try and convey the special bond that only you have with your pet. For me the most successful portraits are the ones when the owner gets all misty eyed because somehow I've managed to find that special 'look' that speaks volumes about this little soul that you love so much. The quote by Edith Wharton kind of sums it up 'a heartbeat at my feet.'
